How can I tell if my ceiling contains asbestos?
-
Vermiculite Painting Services take your health and our workers' safety very seriously and will not undertake any work on a vermiculite ceiling without first testing for the presence of asbestos.
-
We use a National Association of Testing Authorities accredited laboratory to test all of our vermiculite samples to give you peace of mind.
-
Should your vermiculite ceiling contain asbestos, we strongly recommend immediate removal. Our certified Asbestos Removalists can quickly and safely dispose of all traces of asbestos.
Why not just paint your vermiculite ceiling with regular ceiling paint?
-
Unless the vermiculite is sealed with a specialist sealing product the ceiling paint will not cover any stains that are present.
-
Regular ceiling paint is not designed to mask stained vermiculite so up to 8 coats of paint will be needed to give anywhere near an acceptable look. This is time consuming and very expensive.
-
The huge quantity of paint used will leave a paint smell in the unit that is almost impossible to remove and has been known to cause some people to have an allergic reaction.
-
It will not stop any oily substances caused by cooking etc. that are present in the vermiculite from bleeding through the paint over time.
-
No painter will give a Ten Year Limited Warranty on a vermiculite ceiling painted with standard ceiling paint.
Why not install a false gyprock ceiling?
-
Most unit ceilings are only 2.4m high. If a false ceiling is installed below the existing ceiling, it will effectively lower the ceiling to below the 2.4m minimum. This will render the unit uninhabitable, as it will not meet the Building Code.

It is very expensive to do.
